Whether you’re a first time concert goer, or a seasoned vet here are some tips which I have picked up over my years:

  1. SAFETY: it’s always scary heading out into a crowd, so remember your safety! Here are a few things I like to keep in mind whilst I’m at a concert:
  • Spiking: watch your drink/ have a hand over the top of it.
  • Crowd Crush: stand like a boxer (one foot in front of the other and arms up in front of your chest).
  • Ask for Angela/Angel shot – if you’re uncomfortable, approach the bar and ask to see Angela. The bar staff will help you leave the venue discreetly.

2. PRIORITY – some venues (specifically O2 ones) will have a seperate O2 Priority line which gets you in quicker, so make sure to ask the Marshalls outside.

  • Venues like Shepherd’s Bush and Brixton Academy have done so in the past.

3. CLOAKROOM: A really long queue

  • If I’m seated I will 1000% take a jacket, however if I’m standing I will only take a bag so to avoid the queue at the end of the night.
  • If it’s the middle of winter and I have to travel I tend to take a small cardigan which I can easily tie around my bag and keep on me.

4. YOUR OWN PACE: whether you’re tired, or just not feeling it don’t worry about those around you.

  • Mosh Pits: I really don’t like them, but love standing at concerts, so when I see a mosh pit start to form, I glue myself to the outer walls of it, so not to be pushed into the centre.
  • Sitting: I’ve noticed that there is now a trend to stand the WHOLE concert, despite having seats. It’s okay to have a break during a song you don’t like, or when they’re talking etc. Just sit down and relax…

5. QUEUES AT THE END – 3 ways to avoid it:

  • Leave early – as much as it hurts to leave during the best songs, leaving early definitely guarantees you a space on the train without the queue into the tube.
  • Find a shortcut/ alternative route – an example is the O2 – you can sneak in the back of the Tube Station by simply walking round and then cutting in as people get on the escalator. Or Wembley – you can get the tube from Wembley Central, it’s a bit more of a walk, but there wasn’t an hour long queue to get in
  • Wait a while – I know some people who find a pub to sit in and wait till the queue is done.
